Straws made of natural fibers
Unique cold-pressed natural fiber straws are the best option for disposable straws on the market.
Technology
The production technology is the key behind the natural fiber straws being so ecological. The idea for these straws comes from Taiwan, where they have been processing natural fibers for more than 30 years, and honed this technology to perfection.
The story of a bamboo straw
Natural fiber straws are as environmentally friendly as possible:
Material
Bamboo is considered one of the most sustainable crops in the world. Thanks to its extremely fast growth (it reaches full maturity in just 3 years) and its low water and space requirements, it is an ideal material for the production of various products.
That is why bamboo was chosen as the go-to plant. In Taiwan, where the raw material for the production of straws comes from, bamboo is grown on an area of 185,000 hectares. Only 11,000 hectares of this area would be needed to produce straws for the whole world - almost 600 billion straws!
Production
The secret behind the straw production is "Dry Processing and Forming". Natural fibers are processed without the use of any chemicals and synthetic adhesives. The straw production is environmentally friendly - it does not cause any water pollution and the processing temperature is kept below 200 °C to produce as little CO2 emissions as possible.
Another aspect that adds up to the carbon footprint is transportation. The straws are produced locally in the Czech Republic. Compared to the transport of straws from faraway Taiwan or China, the CO2 emissions caused by the transport of goods across half the planet are thus significantly reduced.
Use of straws
Natural fiber straws are a revolution in the world of disposable straws. They are very durable compared to other types of straws. They can be placed in the drinks for 24 hours without soaking and retain these properties at temperatures from 0 ° C to 100 ° C. Paper straws soak up pretty fast, usually just after a couple of minutes in a drink.
To improve durability of paper straws, manufacturers have to use several layers of material or coat the inside of a straw with a thin layer of plastic and glue the two layers with various adhesives together. Keep in mind that the production of paper is a huge burden on the environment.
Disposal
The straws are 100% natural and therefore do not harm the environment when disposed of. Straws completely decompose within 6 months (depending on the conditions and microorganisms present in the environment).
The straws can be put in compost bins or piles without any problems. See the straw production process for yourself here:
Ecology
The world is literally flooded with plastics. They are everywhere you look. They will be here for hundreds of years after we had perished. Today's world has to face the nasty consequences of the plastic crisis. The most urgent problem is also the smallest one - microplastics. These small plastic particles, which come from the decomposition of plastic products, are simply everywhere. They pose an extreme environmental threat to the entire planet. Microplastics enter the body of animals easily and, ultimately, reach us.
As a society, we must confront this crisis and seek long-term sustainable solutions.
So how do natural fiber straws differ from other "green" solutions? Unlike other types of materials used for the production of ecological straws, we at NATUR STRAWS use materials which are environmentally friendly (from production at low temperatures to disposal).
The straws are produced in the Czech Republic, which also reduces the carbon footprint of transport to the minimum.
